all of these ornaments
and decorations
we adorn
to show who we are
and what we represent
the robes,
the necklaces,
the body art,
all expensive clothes
that cannot keep us warm
when the cold wind blows
and freezes us to the core
luxury cars
and micro mansions
and stock options
do not bring us any closer
to an answer that echoes
the truth of our inner self
and what is that initial voice
which speaks
in humming tones
to the back of the spine
as the void presents itself
and all nature
is only nature
and nothing else resides?
and all of these things you own
which go away eventually
in either your lifetime
or the lifetime of those who come
after you,
bring nothing in the way of compassion
or fruitfulness
no one becomes better
by the materials they possess
no material becomes
more worthy by its owner
the hording and collecting
only ends in failure
but when there is nothing,
nothing may reside
and nothing is to be lost
and nothing remains
but the inner voice of truth
which is the only thing
that can ever guide us
when you have nothing,
the entire universe is at your fingertips,
waiting to be touched
it also should be said
there is no such thing as failure
