The new and improved Satan

isn't it funny how they rip us apart
slowly? how they take and take
but refuse to give -
it's sinister the way they
trap you
because you're poor.
it's evil the way they
smile at you
after they've just stabbed
you in the back.
they'll make you believe
it was all your fault,
that you should have been better informed,
that you should have had a law degree
before you signed their contract.
they fool you into believing that your
diploma will get you somewhere.
they spin their words
to make you think
you might actually
own your home
in your lifetime.
they lie to you when they
say it's all worth it.
they sneer before the ink dries.
if you should ever want to see the face
of the Devil,
look into the eyes of a banker,
a lender,
a politician,
a lawyer.
